The iEvaluate class is an online evaluator class that is approved by the Iowa Department of Education. It replaces the required Evaluator Approval Training Courses - Level I and Level II. Currently, professionals with evaluator responsibilities in K-12 schools or seeking to renew an evaluator license may take either the iEvaluate course offered through AEA PD Online or the Assessing Academic Rigour course offered through the AEAs.

Who May Enroll in an iEvaluate Course?

  • School administrators seeking renewal of their evaluator license
  • School administrators from out-of-state seeking Iowa licensure
  • School administrators prepared at colleges / universities outside of Iowa
  • Athletic Directors
  • Dean of Students or other school personnel with evaluation responsibilities

Note: All administrator preparation programs in Iowa offer the necessary evaluator approval course in their course sequence.

Course Content

The iEvaluate course has a series of assignments (e.g., forum discussions, reading, scenarios, reflecting, responding, observing, planning, videotaping, etc.) that must be successfully completed during the eight-week course. If participants choose to take the iEvaluate course, they have the professional responsibiity to complete the work during the schedule timeframe. The course is entirely online with the suggested pacing guide to assist participants through the work. Participants will need to identify a cooperating administrator and a career teacher to work with throughout the course.

If you have questions about the content of the class, please contact Matt Ludwig ( at the Iowa Department of Education.

Cost of Class and Licensure

The iEvaluate courses cost $170.00 (paid to Iowa PD Online), and participants will receive two (2) renewal credits upon successful completion of the course. AEA PD Online will issue the necessary licensure renewal certificate based on final approval of the course instructor. FYI - An individual may apply for an evaluator license up to one year before their evaluator/administrator license expiration date.

If you have questions about your evaluator or administrator licensure, please contact Greg Horstmann at the Board of Educational Examiners (
