Instructional Time Task Force

Contact(s)

This task force will study the following issues:

  • The minimum length of the school day and school year, including whether time in school should be extended for all students or just specific groups of students
  • The school calendar, including whether the school year should be defined by a number of days or instructional hours
  • The concept of a uniform school start date for the school year

The task force also must design and propose a pilot project on extending the school day or year. Recommendations and a pilot project proposal are due to the State Board of Education, the Governor, and the Iowa Legislature by October 15.

A Wiki has been created for the task force to share resources, documents and thinking related to the topic of school instructional time. The Wiki can be viewed here: http://iaschooltime.wikispaces.com/
