What rules are there that apply to the establishment of bus routes?

Answer:

In setting up routes, local boards must comply with the following rules:

  1. A route shall not be extended to accommodate a student whose residence is nearer another bus route.
  2. A route may not include a private road unless the road is maintained in the same manner as a public roadway and the students' safety will be enhanced by use of the private road.
  3. Boards must take advantage of all tax exemptions on fuel, equipment, and any other available economy. See Iowa Code -- 285.11 and 281 Iowa Administrative Code 43.1(2) for more applicable rules.
