What are the more specific physical requirements that a school bus driver must meet?

The following are more specific qualifications:

  1. The driver shall be free from mental, nervous, organic, or functional disease, including but not limited to epilepsy, paralysis, insanity, heart ailments, abnormal blood pressure, or any disease that may cause a tendency to fainting. Diabetes or blood pressure in excess of 170 over 100 (in sitting position) will disqualify a driver or driver applicant unless a qualified physician who is familiar with the person recommends the person for the position of school bus driver. 281 Iowa Administrative Code 43.17.
  2. The driver must be mentally alert and of at least normal intelligence. 281 Iowa Administrative Code 43.18.
