Please explain direct feed/back mapping. We have one K-3 building, one 4-5 building, one 6-8 building, and one 9-12 building. The K-3 building doesn't have any of the grade levels required for reporting. What do we need to do?

Answer:

Backmapping occurs because we are required to make an AYP decision for every school. As such, if a school does not have an accountability grade, we attribute the scores for the next grade up to that school. For example, if you had a K-2 building and a 3-5 building, the grade 3 data would be backmapped into the K-2 building, and the AYP decision of the K-2 building would be based on grade 3 results.
