USDA Foods Program

Who decides what USDA Foods to order for the State of Iowa each year?

Answer:

USDA offers 180 food choices for schools. Each year, the State Agency surveys all SFAs (School Food Authorities) to determine which of the 180 items they are interested in ordering. This survey directly influences what items the State Agency purchases from USDA.

What is the USDA Foods Program?

Answer:

The USDA Foods Program provides bulk unprocessed foods to schools for use in their child nutrition programs. Schools also have the option of turning these foods into processed items.
