Student Curriculum (8th Grade) Plan

Do we need to keep a hard copy of the 4 year plan (and all updates) in the student's cumulative folder for site visits?

Answer: 

Legislation requires the original Student Curriculum (8th grade) Plan with the parent’s signature be included in the cumulative folder. However, the intent of the law is that the plan be accessible by educators and the student for planning.

Can a student/school start the portfolio earlier than 8th grade?

Answer: 

Students may access I Have A Plan Iowa and the Guideway components at any time; however, in order for the student’s Guideway to be considered complete for reporting purposes, it should be accessed during the appropriate academic year (i.e., the 8th grade Guideway should be completed during the 8

Who is responsible for the Student Curriculum (8th Grade) Plan within a school district?

Answer: 

Each district must decide for itself who will be the lead for this process. In many districts the counselor is the lead; however, others who are leading the efforts include a secondary social studies, a CTE teacher, and a school-to-work coordinator.

If I have questions or need help on the I Have A Plan Iowa™ website, who do I contact?

Answer: 

Iowa College Aid is the state agency that provides I Have A Plan Iowa™ free to the citizens of Iowa. They also provide free training and support of the system.

What is the purpose of this legislation?

Answer: 

The legislation (Iowa Code 279.61) along with the training and technical support from Iowa College Aid provides educators and students with the guidelines and 21st century tools to help ensure that all Iowa high school graduates are career, citizen, and college ready.
