In order to be reimbursed, all required food items must be offered at the meal or during the period of time in care. The center should have a signed statement for other foods served. This is not only for the welfare and safety of the infant, but also to protect the center from liability.
Home prepared vegetables can be served to infants when they are ready for solid foods. However, infants between 4 and 6 months should not be fed home prepared fresh, frozen or canned beets, carrots, collard greens, spinach and turnips.
An infant is a child who has not had their first birthday. In the CACFP, an infant is birth (0 months) through the end of the 12th month. When the infant meal pattern says "8-11 months" it means from when the infant is 8 months old until he/she turns 1 year of age.
