Do HKA regulations take precedence over the American Beverage Association guidelines?

Answer: 

Yes. Some schools and/or vendors are implementing the ABA School Beverage Guidelines fully in the 2009-2010 school year. HKA will go into effect one year following. (July 2010) and will add additional restrictions, such as no carbonated beverages. i.e. diet sodas.

Is Vitamin Water or tea allowed?

Answer: 

Flavored water and caffeinated beverages, such as Vitamin Water and Tea are allowed at the middle and high school levels. They are not allowed at the elementary level.

What beverages are prohibited as part of the Nutrition Content Standards?

Answer: 

All soda pop, including diet sodas, are prohibited. Caffeinated beverages are prohibited for elementary students, but not for secondary students. Juices that are less than 100% fruit or vegetable juice are prohibited.
