Empowered Parents for School Wellness

The Empowered Parents for School Wellness workshop is a 1 ½ hour parent workshop co-led by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and the school Food Service Director.  The Food Service Director can “team up” with a local RDN, dietetic student/intern, school nurse, health teacher, FCS teacher, or other staff person who is active in school wellness.  The workshop empowers parents with information about school meals and school wellness that they can help promote the benefits of school meals among their peers and support and lead changes in the wellness environment of their child’s school.  The workshop was developed through an Iowa Team Nutrition grant partnering with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.  Schools are encouraged to contact the Iowa Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics at for RDN volunteers in their local area.
