Gearing up for Constitution Day
Constitution Day falls on Sept. 17, a weekend. Still, Congress requires all public schools to set aside on day during the week of Sept. 17 to teach all students about the U.S. Constitution and citizenship.
Though compliance is mandatory, the implementation is left to local districts. There are lots of resources for teaching about the Constitution. In addition, the Iowa Department of Education has partnered with the state’s Judicial Branch and Bar Association for a Sept. 20 event in which students will have an opportunity to watch justices listening to arguments of real court cases. The event will be livestreamed.
