Date:
Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Sioux City Principals Amy Denney of Perry Creek Elementary School and Stacie Henderson of Liberty Elementary School provide their perspective on the implementation of small-group, skills-based literacy instruction in the Sioux City Community School District.

Writing the blog for the Iowa Reading Research Center, they discuss working with leaders within their buildings to set goals, plan professional development and monitor student data related to the implementation. They also share stories of student and instructor success related to the new methods, as well as the importance of providing teachers a vision for the implementation and ongoing, job-embedded support in high-quality reading instruction.
