Iowa No. 1 in grad rates again
Iowa once again leads the nation in high school graduation rates. Statewide, 90.8 percent of seniors graduated within four years during the 2014-15 school year.
The rate inches up from the previous year, in which 90.5 percent graduated on time.
The graduation rate comes from a report by the U.S. Department of Education, which shows that the nationwide graduation rate is at an all-time high of 83.2 percent, up from 82.3 percent from the year before.
“We celebrate that Iowa continues to lead the country in high school graduation rates and is the only state with a rate above 90 percent,” said Iowa Department of Education Director Ryan Wise. “As a regular visitor to classrooms statewide, I’ve personally seen many great examples of educators who go above and beyond to make sure students not only graduate, but also have the preparation they need to succeed beyond high school.”
