New School Start Date Guidance

Date:
Friday, April 10, 2015

The Iowa Department of Education has issued new guidance to school administrators for the new school start date, which Gov. Branstad signed into law Friday. The new law requires that all Iowa school districts and accredited nonpublic schools begin classes no earlier than August 23 each year, starting with the 2015-16 school year. There are no waivers available for this requirement, but there is a provision for elementary or prekindergarten through 8th grade schools and attendance centers that operate on a year-round calendar.
