Iowans wanted for special education panel
The Iowa Department of Education is seeking members to join the Iowa Special Education Advisory Panel, known as SEAP.
SEAP should represent all Iowans, including those who are culturally and linguistically diverse. We especially are seeking people with the following attributes:
- Those who live in the Quad Cities and northern Iowa;
- Those who have a particular passion for the education of students with disabilities;
- A person responsible for services to students who are homeless; and
- A representative from the state child welfare responsible for foster care.
The majority of the panel must be parents of children with disabilities or individuals with disabilities.
SEAP meets in Des Moines about six to seven times a year; there is no compensation, but expenses including hotel, meals, mileage and child-care costs are covered. New members are required to attend a Sept. 12 orientation. The dates of the full SEAP meetings are: Sept. 13, Oct. 18, Dec. 6, Jan. 17, Feb. 28, April 4, and May 30.
If you or someone you know is interested, fill out the application below and return it by Aug. 5 to Jim Flansburg at firstname.lastname@example.org.
