HSED/GED® Testing Program

The Iowa Department of Education has selected a new high school equivalency test. Iowa has had a long association with GED® as the assessment to measure high school equivalency. However, for any tester that has started time is running out to complete. December 13, 2013 will be the last testing date in Iowa.

Beginning in January 2014, Iowa’s new high school equivalency test will be the HiSET® developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS). View an informational video.

The high school equivalency test gives students who left high school before graduating an opportunity to earn a High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED). The test meets the requirement set by Iowa Code 259A.1 that the diploma shall be issued on the basis of satisfactory competence as shown by tests covering all of the following: Language Arts-Reading, Language Arts-Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

For verification of completion or for a duplicate diploma/transcript of the GED® or HiSET® a request for a must be submitted in writing using the HSED Document Request Form.  The request must be signed and dated or a company release needs to accompany it. Follow the instructions located at the bottom of the request form.
