Does a school or school district have to have an attendance policy?
Yes.
Section 280.3 of the Iowa Code requires each school district and each nonpublic school to have an attendance policy. 281 IAC rule 12.3(2) requires that all policies be reviewed at least every 5 years "to ensure relevance to current practices and compliance with the Iowa Code, administrative rules and decisions, and court decisions."
