This webinar is an opportunity to learn about the NEW breakfast requirements that go into effect July 1, 2013. Participants will learn about the new meal pattern, daily and weekly component requirements, calorie ranges for each grade group, as well as flexibilities and revisions that have been made by USDA. Participants will also see how some common breakfast menus can still be used with the new breakfast meal pattern.

ECR: B – 5 Trainers Booster Session

The Iowa Department of Education is pleased to offer its annual June training for Every Child Reads: Birth – Five trainers. Dr. Karen C. Stoiber from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee will be our presenter. The title of her presentation is: “Early Literacy and Response to Intervention Multi-Tiered Delivery.”

This training will focus on early literacy assessment and intervention.   The training workshop will place an explicit emphasis on evidence-based practices shown to produce positive outcomes in improving young children’s early literacy development. The workshop will include instruction and demonstration of early literacy practices that are closely aligned with implementation of response-to-intervention (RTI) including: shared book reading, vocabulary, and language development; screening and progress monitoring; differentiated small group strategies; collaborative teaming and literacy coaching aimed at supporting effective teacher implementation; and intervention integrity for improving instructional and intervention practices.

Registration deadline is Friday, April 26th.

This training will cover the SY 2013-2014 Iowa Eligibility Application, Direct Certification, E-Lookup, hawk-i, and an introduction to the Verification Process. We will show the changes that have taken place for the new year, where to find application materials; plus review the application approval process which includes instructions on how to use ICAVES (Iowa Certification and Verification Excel Spreadsheet). ICAVES is a tool designed to assist LEAs in free and reduced price meal eligibility determination, verification selection, and verification tracking. Also review Direct Certification and E-Lookup.

Who should register: Everyone involved with approving Free/Reduced Applications, downloading Direct Certification lists, and completing the Verification process.
