Instructional Resources for Students With Significant Cognitive Disabilities

The purpose of this area of the Department's website is to provide information and resources for Iowa’s special education practitioners who serve students with significant cognitive disabilities and who are assessed by the Iowa Alternate Assessment 1%.

Contents within this instructional resource library include sections of information related to effective instructional practices for students with significant cognitive disabilities.  Exemplars of evidence for the Iowa Alternate Assessment 1% were developed by Iowa Educators and represent the materials used in classrooms across the state.

Instructional Support Documents

Planning tools to help support daily academic instruction. Documents categorized into the following sections:

  • General - Documents support and assist in the planning and implementation of academic instruction.
  • Literacy - Researched based materials to support students in linking communication and literacy wile developing emergent to conventional literacy skills.
  • Mathematics - Researched based materials that support students in accessing general mathematics curriculum.
  • Science - Researched based materials that support students in access general science curriculum.

 

Teacher Created Instructional Resources

Unit and lesson plans created by Iowa educators for instruction linked to the Iowa Alternate Assessment 1%. Materials are organized by grade levels of the Iowa Alternate Assessment 1%.
