Governor Culver Announces Judy Jeffrey to Retire

Governor Chet Culver today announced that Judy Jeffrey, the Director of the Iowa Department of Education, plans to retire next month. The Governor has named Kevin Fangman, the current Division Administrator for PK-12 Education, as Acting Director until a permanent replacement is named.

Task force releases teacher leadership and compensation recommendations

Members of the state Task Force on Teacher Leadership and Compensation released their final recommendations, which set a new vision for the teaching profession in Iowa and provide more support and career opportunities than ever before.  

iconThe report is the culmination of seven months of consensus-based work by the task force, made up of 25 education stakeholders representing teachers, principals, superintendents, education associations, school boards, the Iowa Department of Education and higher education.

 

Three state task forces release final reports

Members of three state education task forces today released their final reports, which address such areas as teacher and school administrator evaluations, the state’s teaching standards, and the concept of a longer school day and school year.

The Instructional Time Task Force, the Administrator Evaluation Task Force, and the Teaching Standards and Teacher Evaluation Task Force are three of six state task forces established as part of Senate File 2284, the education package adopted by the Iowa Legislature in the spring.

 

Advisory: Meeting Notice for Task Force on Early Childhood Assessment

Iowa Department of Education Director Jason Glass today announced a meeting of the Task Force on Early Childhood Assessment on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting will take place at the West Des Moines Learning Resource Center, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, in West Des Moines.
